Because stock uprights fit perfectly with a carpet sample on each end, cradling it all safely to its new home. I’m putting in some shelving in a closet for my sister in their nursery.

No but if you look closely, you’ll see my aliases include “JC” and “Lord and Savior and dark master"

I must say I do not care for how short the bed in my Sierra is. 5'8" is too damn short. Next truck, whenever that is, will be at least a 6'6" bed. It makes a difference!

Yeah my 89 was a short box (72") which was ocassionally inconvenient, but this longbed is dope as hell (90").

The fact that that image exists proves that the internet is a wondrous thing, and that something somewhere exists within it so that you may win any arguement.

I’ve had a 6'6" bed before, and it’s just long enough that you can put a 10' stick of pipe in diagonally without needing to flag the load. With the 5'8" bed if I put it in diagonally it sticks out so far to the side it goes past my side view mirror. If I put it straight back, it’s far enough out that I have to flag it. Tis annoying. An 8' bed would be the shit, but I need a crew cab to haul the kiddos. That would necessitate stepping up to a 3/4 ton, which is too much truck and too much money.

The Internet, or the writers for Futurama.

There’s a strong possibilty that I haven’t seen that episode. I thought I’d seen most.

I’ve been brainstorming what my next pickup would be, and nothing will be perfect. I really want an extended cab next time, but I don’t need it... which would also increasing the probability of another 6' bed. You can get a longer bed with an extra cab, but I don’t want a vehicle that’s 25 ft long... And I don’t really want or need a full size. And trucks are fucking expensive. New or used.

Yeah, it’s always a compromise. I’m too big to be comfortable in the average regular cab mini truck, but to my surprise, the regular cab 1st gen Colorado is so roomy I had to pull the seat up a click. Unfortunately they didn’t make a long bed Colorado.

Truck prices have gone bonkers! I paid less than $22k out the door for my ‘06 Sierra crew cab, brand new. It’s closest equivalent now stickers for almost $40k. Yesterday I spec’d the truck I’d actually want if I were to get a new one... $45 THOUSAND dollars!!! Yeah, I’ll be clinging to this one as long as it remains reliable.

Used ones are no help either. Heck, my truck is still worth better than half what I paid for it a decade ago. I can’t imagine paying that much for a truck that old.

A good ‘96 Tacoma (4x4 extended) still fetches 7-8k. For a 20 year old pickup! A 2001 in good condition is over 10k... Lordy.

And there is no Taco longbed either... I’d have to get a T100 (which I like) but those are getting more expensive with time too.

T100s didn’t sell too well around here. We’ve always had plenty of Tacos (even though they rusted like no other, people kept buying them), but even when they were new I maybe saw one a month. Now I maybe see one every few years. It’s an event when I spot a T100.
